Camp Besania Welcomes Forestry Interns from Makerere University

Camp Besania is proud to announce the arrival of undergraduate students from Makerere University’s School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, who will be undertaking a six-week internship program with us from June 10th to July 25th, 2025.
This collaboration is part of our ongoing mission to support hands-on environmental education by equipping future conservation leaders with real-world experience. Through this internship, students will be immersed in practical projects that reflect the urgent need to protect Uganda’s biodiversity, promote sustainable land use, and develop eco-friendly livelihoods.
“Internship is a central part of the curriculum aimed at providing students with hands-on experiences in various aspects of their future profession.”
— Makerere University Department of Forestry, Biodiversity and Nature Conservation
Investing in the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards
Internships like this are vital to Uganda’s conservation agenda. As environmental challenges grow more complex, we must prepare a generation that understands not only the science of ecosystems but also the value of nature itself. At Camp Besania, we believe the best way to nurture this mindset is by giving young professionals direct exposure to conservation work in action.
Over the course of the internship, students will engage in:
-
Beekeeping for Conservation – Learning how honey production supports biodiversity and forest protection.
-
Agroforestry Projects – Participating in sustainable land-use practices that combine agriculture with forest conservation.
-
Eco-tourism & Community Engagement – Seeing firsthand how nature-friendly tourism and environmental education empower communities.
-
Clean Energy Solutions – Exploring briquette making as a sustainable alternative to charcoal.
Collaboration for Conservation
This program reflects Camp Besania’s core belief: that we can earn from nature without destroying it. It also strengthens our long-term goal of creating a country where conservation is not just a policy — it’s a culture passed from one generation to the next.
🙏 A special thank you to the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, and the Department of Forestry, Biodiversity and Nature Conservation at Makerere University for the continued collaboration. Together, we are shaping a more sustainable Uganda.
We look forward to the energy, innovation, and environmental passion these students will bring to our conservation mission.
